The Festivities!

In the U.S. there are many typical festivals that Americans celebrate with great enthusiasm.

Would you know tell me some of the most important festivals celebrated there?


Independence Day

One of the most important festivals is celebrated on July 4, Independence Day. On July 4, 1776 the United States signed the Declaration of Independence, definitely away from the British Empire.

To celebrate that day several public events such as parades, concerts and regional parties are held in addition to the traditional fireworks.



Presidents Day

Another festival that is also important is the Presidents day, held the third Monday in February in honor of all past presidents of the United States of America like George Washington.



Memorial Day

We can also highlight other festival, Memorial Day. This festival is celebrated on the last Monday of May each year to commemorate those who died in the country's wars . That day people visit the graves of their deceased relatives , have served in the military or not. Also it has become a day of family reunion. Officially the birthplace of Memorial Day is Waterloo.



Columbus Day

Another festival is known as Columbus Day , a name which was initially named in most Latin American countries the party October 12 , held the second Monday in October commemorating the discovery of America .
This commemorative feast generally remains in Hispanoamerica, although many countries have given other names such as Día de la Hispanidad in Spain.



Halloween

Another well-known in the United States, sure you know, is Halloween festival, celebrated on the night of October 31, the eve of All Saints.
Typical activities that include Halloween are the famous trick or treating and costume parties, also bonfires, visiting haunted houses, pranks, reading scary stories and viewing of horror films.


Thanksgiving Day

And to finish, we will highlight the Thanksgiving Day festival. The Thanksgiving Day is a traditional celebration of the United States and Canada. In the United States is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November although originally was made last Thursday. Generally during this festival family and friends gather to share a meal. It’s considered as a secular holiday although its origins are religious.
